For some they might be reaching for quality viewing going to blu ray ... but for those like myself it would the lack of a wide broad field of movie or tv series titles being available on any one streaming service being the reason to look for content elsewhere.

I miss video and dvd rental stores, more so video stores for those in my parts held a far greater range of titles, and generally generous weekly rental terms.

I'd definitely have a bigger dvd collection but for the fact many tv series and movie just didn't become available in Australia due to production issues like music rights.

Baring cooking and reality / docu type shows, I also think the change from where many tv series were 20 plus episodes per series has finally had an impact of viewer consumption.

Yeah it's just not economically viable for a single platform to license all high profile monopoly content and then sell it all as cheaply as netflix was. It was all an investment backed illusion. I think the interesting thing is that this is one area where competition has, on the face of it, actually made the market worse as different companies attempt to create monopolies on particular IPs, encouraging consumers to get multiple subscriptions to different multiple companies simultaneously. Although the reality is, again, that the Netflix content omnibus was not sustainable in any case.

We pay for Disney+ and Hulu as a combo. It was great because Hulu had a good player, Disney+ had a good library. They've started splitting the two and now I wanted to watch a Disney show I'd missed from my childhood. The Disney+ player just wouldn't go. It would play the opening ad just fine, then nothing. Video preview on the scrub bar (?) would work, but it never played anything but a black screen stuck at 0 seconds.

It's always like this. It's always that the site won't play in HD let alone 4k, it won't let me turn off dumb settings, it won't let me guess 4:3 content without cutting it off... They've really ruined a silver platter. Just play the stupid video. We gave you the money. Just play the video, from your server, on my computer. It's all already pirated and stolen anyway, so I just don't get the point. I can screen share a DVD over discord with friends. Truly infuriating how terrible they've made a dumb video player.
