Britain arrests more for social media posts than China, Russia, Turkey combined

One one level it's real to say that these are the official numbers cited by different countries.

But it's not meaningful. The numbers are not counting the same thing.

e.g. in the UK if you make a hoax emergency services call then that gets counted in the stats.

UK isn't perfect, obviously. Most recently there has been a lot of debate about whether Palestine Action is really a terrorist organization or whether allowing Kanye West into the UK is a good idea or not.

But it's clearly nonsense to suggest that the UK is more repressive than these other countries.
